Below, you will find carefully selected material options for each category. Wherever applicable, both Recommended and Budget-friendly alternatives are provided.
You may choose based on your comfort level and availability: the techniques taught in the course are designed to work effectively with either option when used correctly.
1. Wax Based Pencils
Wax-based coloured pencils are beginner friendly pencils that can create hyper-realistic drawings. When layered correctly, they create velvety blends, natural tones, and stunning depth. With the right approach, even simple strokes can transform into lifelike textures and refined detail.
2. Student Grade Pencils
Student-grade pencils may seem simple, but in the right areas they create crisp edges, controlled detailing, and sharper definition. Used strategically, they help achieve precision and balance within a portrait.
3. Alcohol Markers
Alcohol markers bring richness and smoothness to the initial layers. Their seamless blending and vibrant undertones add dimension beneath colored pencil work, resulting in depth that feels natural and realistic.
4. Blender Pencil
A blender pencil is a colourless blender that refines the surface by softening strokes and merging layers. This subtle finishing step enhances smooth transitions and gives artwork a polished, professional appearance.
5. White Gel Pen
The smallest highlights often make the biggest impact. A white gel pen adds striking reflections and fine details that bring eyes, hair, and textures vividly to life.
6. Toned Paper
Toned paper plays a powerful role in Hyper Realistic Drawing. Tan and grey surfaces naturally enhance contrast, allow highlights to glow, and support multiple layers without damage: essential for creating depth and dimension. While purchasing paper or book, make sure to select one with:
- Paper size is 11 inch × 14 inch, A3 or above
- Paper is of medium texture
- Is either Tan or Grey toned colour paper (not white)
- Acid free paper, Thickness of 110 GSM or above
7. Black Paper
Black paper is used in Module 26 of Hyper Realistic Drawing Made Easy: from Basics to Brilliance Course. It introduces a dramatic shift in technique, focusing on light emerging from darkness. It creates bold contrast and striking visual impact in advanced stages.
It's recommended to purchase at least one Black paper in addition to your Tan/Grey toned book.
8. Fixative Spray
A professional finish deserves protection. Fixative preserves the richness of layers and safeguards the artwork from smudging, ensuring long-lasting results.
9. Other Tools
Nothing fancy, normal household stationary would do.
